Puppet Theory/Delights/Kula Bay-19th October @ Night people

Music can help make memories and it can also bring people together.3 bands all different but United to make an incredible show. An unforgettable show for all.

.Delights were the first band of the night and they were a treat to watch. Their first song 'naked heart' had a similar sound to The Hubbards early songs which could put some off but it only made the crowd love them more having that common link. Throughout they had the crowd swaying along, more and more people joining in with each song, the lead singer was lost in the music, with chilled vibes in the majority compared to the other two bands which helped to warm up the crowd. They made sure to include their newest single 'Jungle' which really showcases how good they are as a band and their potential to do well, especially in terms of synchronisation with each other and the passion within their playing. The Hubbards didn't seem to be the only influence on the band, their final song 'Bloom' had an intro with some elements of the Sherlocks. Bloom was also, according to the band, the first song they ever wrote, taking them back to their roots and showing where it all started. Overall, an excellent set of chilled out songs except for one which was more upbeat and had the crowd dancing along. A band worth looking into especially with the power of their lead singers voice and their engagement with a crowd.

The next band on the bill was Kula Bay who sounded straight out of Summer. They had a strong start with 'Summertime' which had the most of the crowd swaying from the first note. By the second song 'lost with you' the whole crowd was watching them and dancing along. Not only did the crowd seemed to be having fun so did the band, who were dancing as they played with a never-ending energy.'Make up your mind' was a hit with the crowd with its bright summery tone similar to that of Cassia and just happened to be the most recent release from the band. The lead singer was definitely the star of the show, however, with his energetic movements and deep vocals which seemed to encourage the crowd to dance and sing along. The band got serious for a moment with 'You'll be Fine' which was described by the lead singer as a song about 'Growing up too fast' which was a fresh change to their happy sounding songs.'7 Hours' was possibly one of their strongest songs as everyone knew it and seemed to enjoy it the most. Overall, Kula Bay were lively and incredibly upbeat throughout their set, which their sounds the same on record performance which is hard for some to do. If you miss summer, Kula Bay is your kind of band.

The headliners and final band of the night, newly signed Puppet theory almost blew the roof off the venue. Starting off with 'I, the king' which had everyone on their feet moving along from the first note, waking them up, puppet theory were already a showstopper. With such a strong fan base and crowd, anything the band played would have likely been received well by the crowd. Even the 3 new songs were a hit with the crowd, which wasn't surprising from the past times I've seen Puppet Theory where they have always been in top form. Some songs were more developed from past performances which could be due to practice or rewrites but either way, they sounded excellent.'Drifting' was one of those developed songs which sounded much more fleshed out which was good to hear. There was a good mix of new and old Puppet Theory favourites which brought both new and old fans together as one. They also engaged well with the crowd sometimes it felt like just talking to an old mate, they had a huge power of the crowd and even at one point getting the whole crowd to 'get down low' even though 'you've got to wait a bit though' for the right beat of a song. They did have a technical difficulty during one of the songs but not even that stopped them, when it turned out Lead singer Chris had just stepped on something in his burst of energy, he joked about it engaging again with the crowd and keeping the energy up. Mascara, Puppet theory's newest release, was a strong song with the crowd, some singing their lungs out to it, dancing with an unending energy, it had been awaiting a release for a while and you could see the happiness of the band watching the crowd's reaction to it. They brought the crowd to life for just a little bit longer with final song 'Do you Know?' from their first EP 'Buttons' going back to the earlier days of the band, where many fans discovered them. Throughout this final song, there wasn't a silent person in the crowd. Overall, an excellent show with a strong lineup and a dedicated crowd. Puppet theory are no longer drifting in the indie scene, and they have to power to get to the top, and so do Kula Bay and Delights, support your local bands!
