When the world is as vast and chaotic as it is nowadays, it is both an exciting and terrifying environment to thrive in; Answers at our fingertips and many a rabbit hole to fall into, from the name of a group of sharks (a shiver) to how you find yourself in your 20s (there’s certain answer for that one). We are all trying to find and define what makes us who we are.

Manchester Dee Rae, and their latest single ‘Purple and Red’ is a song that beautifully captures this experience of self-discovery and identity that can be as exciting as it is nerve-wracking.

From the get-go, this track carries the listener softly with a sense of comfort like that of a warm spring day, from its warming musical combination of violin lines, soft percussion and guitar riffs to its poetically personal lyricism that fills the heart with a sense of reassurance,e.g 'a child with a Woman in her mind'.

As the song continues, 'Purple and Red’ goes from strength to strength, Dee Rae’s storytelling unravelling beautifully in rich vocal styling and in the lead-up to the track’s captivating crescendo of electric guitar and haunting harmonies.

This is the perfect track to sit back and escape to another world, as well as complimenting the music library of Laura Marling and Marika Hackman fans, particularly in its atmospheric crescendo in ‘Purple and Red's final section.

If a song to soothe the soul and reassure is the next addition to your spring playlist, then ‘Purple and Red’ is an absolute must.
