Cavana/FOOY/Seegulls-Night people, 10th March 2018
We all love a good show on a Saturday night, the nights where some of the best memories happen, and even if you are drunk or sober, it was a night to remember.
The first act on the line up when I arrived was FOYE, who from the get-go had the crowd tapping their feet and swaying along, and even though it was small stage the four of them worked well within it, even though at certain parts in the show the acoustics weren't the best and the band did have to ask multiple times for certain instruments to be turned up ,FOYE still worked in perfect unison, not missing a beat nor a lyric. The lead singer's voice rang through the room and you could feel the music through the floor.FOYE created an excellent atmosphere for the show, where positives of the lead singer's strong voice outweighed the negatives of the venue acoustics, FOOY was a great start.
The next act on the line up was Seagulls, who had a strong start which continued right to the end of their set, with constant energy practically emitting from the band to the crowd and a charismatic lead singer they were a tough act to follow. The lead singer had excellent chemistry with the crowd, his comedy even had the crowd laughing 'bounce up and down like its mother's day tomorrow' he said continuing to say something that I didn't quite hear.'Desired deception' was one of their strongest songs, with its guitar choir intro and energy which reached their crowd who was mostly at the back during their set, every beat was perfectly captured and rang through the small room making it feel more compacted and close, their incredible buildups also had the crowd bouncing constantly throughout the show.Due to the size of the venue members kept bumping into each other but they laughed it off and kept going which shows a real air of maturity and professionalism, with inside joke that had the crowd laughing at such as comparing their drummer to 'Macaulay Culkin' and before one of their newest songs 'I Hate Music' asking 'is there any lighthouse family fans here?' and after a few people cheered responding with 'well that tells you all you need to know'.By the end of their set they had the crowd under their spell, they could tell them to sit down, jump up or spin around and the crowd would have obeyed, they had the crowd wrapped around their little finger and under their powerful control. After seagulls finished the majority of the crowd emptied out. Seagulls were the highlight of the show and may remind people of Kings of Leon and Biffy Clyro.
The final act was Cavana who had a lot of work to do if they were going to be more memorable than Seagulls. It could have been due to the acoustics of the venue or the demographic of the crowd but Cavana were not on top for if my being very honest, they took quite a while to warm up to the crowd, now not every band is going to be perfect every time but after seeing Cavana last year with a demographic of around 14 to 18 they weren't the best. However, there were some good moments further towards the middle of their set when they finally came to life, the 3 front members were like the three musketeers every time you looked at them they were in sync and weren't missing a beat, every one of their tracks followed well into each other it was like listening to a full album but live. From the middle of their set, they had the crowd mesmerised with their every movement showing great chemistry.Cavana were also not afraid to try their signature tricks such as standing on one of the highest amps and playing guitar or dancing along to their own songs which encouraged the crowd to do so and also didn't let the stage barriers limit them which one member even walking off stage sitting on one of the steps at the side and serenading one of the photographers with his guitar playing, the whole room was Cavana's stage, they had an exciting mix of calm and energetic songs which the crowd reacted well to.Their every movement matched the mood of the songs well and were smooth and almost as if on cue with certain beats of the song.By the end of their set, there wasn't a silent person in the room and the room was chaotic with the barrier being shaken and moved around, members of the crowd giving them sips of their drinks and members balancing on instruments
This was a night to remember for every drunk or sober or even slightly intoxicated member of the crowd.
