Weekend Recovery Interview
Over time things change, situations, relationships, music etc, but not all change is bad. From complete changes in the line up to the growth and change in sound, Weekend Recovery has changed a lot since they first began making music, and even though its only been a few years since their first EP 'Rumours' back in 2016, a lot can happen in the space of two years.I interviewed Lori from Weekend Recovery about favourite tracks from their upcoming EP 'Get What You Came For' out on the 17th February, their growth of the band and the differences between their new EP and their first EP.
what inspired the name of the album?
The album was a bit of an offload for me after a bit of a rollercoaster year! There's a lot of anger and frustration with a sprinkle of heartbreak. So 'get what you came for' came from just that, a bit of fingers up to the year but also a salute as something great came from something a little shitty! You 'get what you came for' and you kick its arse into something fantastic! what was the recording process like for this album?
Stressful! I had a very certain vision in my head of how I wanted the album to sound, but of course, this isn't a one-person operation, I do believe too many cooks and all that, but I think after a lot of discussions we came out with something we were all very proud of. It took me ages to get my vocal takes right as I didn't for ages feel like I was getting it, so had to rethink how I was feeling back when shit hit the fan so to speak and got that sass back! which track would you say was your favourite and why?
Oh, Jenny! 100% this is where it all began, with an old relationship being tainted by an old (and at the time, in my opinion, a very current) love of his. This was where my spiral into anxiety and anger began so without this I think the album would be very different and not so passionate. Your first release was the 'Rumours' EP back in 2016 what would you say is different in terms of sound and recording process? Rumours was a lot more produced and clean, which with the sound that we had at the time it was perfect for, Dan Lucas of Anchorbaby Recording Company did a fantastic job! Get what you came for is a lot more raw and DIY sounding, this was very deliberate as our sound has changed to a lot more punky and emotion fuelled. Do you feel like you have grown as a band since your first release?
OMG YES! We've had a complete lineup change for various reasons - but I think the guys I have on board now are full of ambition, guts and passion. It's taken a long time to find the right fit (unbelievable with the number of musicians out there) but I have complete faith and trust in the guys!
Weekend Recovery's new EP 'Get What You Came For' comes out on the 17th February,so set those alarms!
