There is no reinvention and transformation without some degree of letting go; it feels aching and melancholic yet hopeful for what may lie ahead. For Velvet, it is those exact aforementioned sensations that have informed their newest single and first release in three years,’ Under The Water,’ and created a listening experience that feels refreshingly healing.

Crafted by a brand new line-up, and a Pixies' ‘Where’s My Mind’ esque atmosphere,’ Under The Water’ strikes deep from its first notes of soft percussion and striking electric and cool-toned acoustic guitar riff combo to the track's yearningly melancholic vocal delivery and introspective intimate lyricism, that will leave anyone who's ever lost someone or something important comforted and cathartic. When the track reaches its final curtain, this ache sweetly softens into the soul as if it was always meant to be there, yet still packs an aching punch of passion in its subtlety, making it an overall rawly melodic triumph for Velvet.

Since 2018, Velvet have crafted rawness and high-power tracks that stick long after their final chorus. When it comes to ‘Under The Water’, that approach is still present; however, it feels a whole lot more layered and mature,a feeling that has proudly brought Velvet’s new era with honesty and a whole lot of brilliant emotional confidence to their advantage.

Velvet is well and truly back, and it's about time. ‘Under The Water’ is out now on all streaming platforms. Click the artwork below to choose yours.
