Tiggi Hawke Interview

The British music scene has always been rich with vibrant, fresh and exciting artists and Tiggi Hawke is no exception.I interviewed her about working with dutch DJ Mike Magos, passion for music and what the future holds for Tiggi Hawkes.

Where did your passion for music begin and what made you want to follow a career as a singer-songwriter?

I've always loved music but i honestly never thought about a career in music until i was about 15 and i met my mentors and started writing music properly.I had a really eclectic mix of music around me while I was growing up and I think that encouraged me to explore musically,my parents were and are incredibly supportive,in fact I'm pretty sure they knew I'd choose a path in music before I did! I was writing while I finished my education and went to uni but I think I always knew what i really wanted to do and i feel so lucky to have been able to pursue it so far.

You recently unveiled your latest single/video 'Dangerous Behaviour'. What's the story behind the song and the visuals?

For me its about a very positive experience where someone empowered me to take risk that I never usually would have taken. Don’t get me wrong, I like my comfort zone but I do really believe in taking leaps out of it when the time is right. This particular person encouraged me to act and I really enjoyed it! At the same time the song is also a bit of a challenge, it’s saying well since you’ve empowered me to do something I never would have usually done, what happens next is entirely on you and I hope you can handle me!

You collaborated with Mike Magos on the track. What was it like working with him and what did you gain from the experience?

It was such a great experience working with Mike, he got the topline in his inbox somehow and worked his magic! The next thing I knew was I got the first demo back and I loved it, it really captured the reckless energy I had in mind and after a few adjustments we were done, I still wrangled a trip to Amsterdam though! What was great was that Mike is incredibly nice and really open to collaboration so it was so much fun so do this track together, even though we were in different countries for most of it. I’d definitely like to do similar collaborations in the future, working with other producer and writers is very rewarding and I love throwing ideas around with people.

Who else would you love to collaborate with and why?

As wildly unrealistic as this sounds I would love to work with The Weeknd, I love the way he writes. His lyrics seem to be very carefully thought out and put together and the instrumentals are something else. So here’s hoping…!

How do you feel your sound has evolved since your debut EP Burn Notice?

I write music about things that have happened to me or around me so I think my music has changed as I have, hopefully for the better! That said I’d class all my music so far as electro-pop, my first EP was more alternative-electro and I think I’ve moved closer to the pop side of things with my last 2 singles. I guess it’s natural for my music to reflect how things are in my life in general so goodness knows where I’ll go next!

And finally, what's next for Tiggi Hawke?

Well 2017 has been amazing so I’m really looking forward to 2018, I’ll be writing and gigging until Christmas which is a great way to finish the year (in my opinion!). Next year I’ll have some new music to release, watch this space!!
